About this site

TSP Tools is a free set of planning tools for people with a Thrift Savings Plan account. Not affiliated with the TSP, FRTIB or any federal agency.

Last reviewed Oct 29, 2026.

Who it is for

Federal employees and members of the uniformed services who want to test an idea about their TSP before acting on it: a seasonal plan, a fund mix, a contribution schedule, or just a clearer look at what each fund has done.

What it does

  • Backtests a month-by-month plan against the official share prices, with the out-of-sample years shown separately.
  • Keeps a leaderboard of saved plans, each judged from the day it was saved as well as over the past.
  • Shows every fund's prices, returns and drawdowns from the same data.
  • Plans contributions over the pay dates left in the year, inside the IRS limits, so that the agency match is not lost by reaching the limit early.
  • Explains the rules it relies on, with the source and the date each was read, on the methodology page.

What it does not do

  • It does not give advice. A backtest is a record of the past, not a forecast, and the site says so next to every result. Nothing here is tailored to you.
  • It does not touch your TSP account, ask for your login, or know who you are. There are no accounts here.
  • It does not guess a rule. A limit the IRS has not announced is shown as not announced, never projected.
  • It does not sell anything or show advertising.

The site's running costs are paid by its owner. There are no advertisements and no paid features today. If that ever changes, this page and the privacy page will say so before it does.

Independence

Not affiliated with the TSP, FRTIB or any federal agency. Share prices are public data published by the TSP; every rule is cited to the statute, regulation, IRS notice or official page it was read from. The wording, code and design are original.

Contact and corrections

Questions, mistakes and suggestions go through the contact form. A disagreement with an official source is treated as a bug and fixed with the source cited.
